As a presenter you always want to make things easier for your audience, right? Often a speaker may use an acronym or use an initialization with which not everyone is familiar. It’s not uncommon to even reference a term or phrase that is not well-known.
The problem with this is it’s a form of distraction and the speaker may not realize people in the audience are not following them. So what do you do?
One solution to consider is the inclusion of a glossary. I recommend the speaker draw attention to this tool right after the opening remarks. Your glossary ideally will be short, include links if appropriate and in general make things easier for everyone. Using a glossary is an excellent way of aiding in retention and can easily be referenced as often as needed. It may come as a surprise that some of the knowledge you take for granted is new for others. That’s why it helps to use a glossary.
