You may have thought I was referring to something you bite into…however I was talking about a sound bite.

The term sound bite was coined by the U.S. media in the 1970s. Typically the sound bite is a phrase or snippet extracted from a longer piece. Think of a sound bite as being short/succinct, memorable, and impactful. Try to use metaphors, brevity, and always polish your sound bite to ensure it works well for you. You may opt to change it at any time (if you so choose), to make it more suitable.

Sound bites are extremely effective in interviews, podcasts and when you have limited time. They can and should be powerful such as when former President Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you but rather what you can do for your country.”

Other aspects to remember are try to be pithy, have a call to action or tell a story. I have a handout on creating sound bites that I use with my clients. If you’re interested in working with me on creating your sound bite(s), please connect with me in a manner that is easy for you (i.e., email, phone, virtual, or in-person). It would be an honor to assist you.
