What are your thoughts about becoming a leader?  What if I told you that you already have the makings of a leader and now it’s time to implement what you know? Here are some considerations to ponder:

  1. Do you prefer to be succinct to discuss difficult concepts?  Using shorter phrases and words is something we all need to work at but it clearly enhances our message. That also applies to written communication. In fact, you may wish to start there and then use your same skills when verbalizing.
  2. Do you carefully choose metaphors to clarify your intent? Using metaphors is a good way to apply a meaningful shortcut that will help others retain what you’re saying. These shortcuts are an excellent tool for assisting people with an experience with which they’re not familiar. It provides your audience with something with which they can easily relate.
  3. Do you personalize data to give it greater benefit? It certainly requires an additional step on your part, but it increases the relevance and value to your listeners.  The more relevance you provide, the better the odds are that your message has inherent value.
  4. Do you overcommunicate? If you don’t, you should. When we overcommunicate on presentations, social media, marketing materials, podcasts, webinars,  etc. we’re creating a mantra.  The exciting part of mantras is that they’re repeatable. They also help teams better align with one another.
