Any of you with whom I’ve worked, know that I don’t recommend closing your presentation saying “thank you.”  In my opinion, it’s the easy way out and I prefer that my clients use a meaningful closing instead of a word that is overused.

Because I believe that saying “thank you” doesn’t belong in a closing does not mean that gratitude cannot be expressed. There are several more genuine approaches such as saying:

  1. I’m very grateful for what you did for me.
  2. Your help was appreciated.
  3. Your actions meant a lot to me.

Please know that expressing gratitude may be verbal or in writing such as in a card, email, or text. Let’s say that you want to have a significant impact and saying the word “thanks” doesn’t seem adequate.  Then you may opt to choose words like “You’ll never know how much your kindness means to me.” When expressing gratitude in writing, it’s best to use specificity such as “Thank you for your invaluable assistance in completing my presentation.

It helps to remember that when you show your gratitude:

  1. You validate someone else’s actions, which may encourage them to repeat their behavior.
  2. Your taking steps toward building a professional relationship.
  3. You demonstrate your humility and your strong manners.

We never know when or how someone will help us. Therefore, remember to always express gratitude as it reflects well on you and shows that you’re thinking of others.

Have a grateful Thanksgiving and put effort in expressing gratitude.
