We all rate ourselves; particularly speakers.  We may ask a friend, peer, colleague, or family member—“How did I do?”

But is that really satisfactory?  What if the person says “You did great.” That response is somewhat general or vague and we may not learn much from that rating.  If we do ask an individual(s) we should consider asking something like: How was my posture? or How was my volume? That way we get specific feedback and we can act on it if we opt to do so.

The other choice is using my Presentation Log which is three pages and divides up the presentation into areas such as content, delivery, and technique. In each detailed segment, you ask yourself what you did well and where you need to improve.  Additionally, you assign a rating for each item, ranging from low to high (1-5).  The next step is to review the presentation log before your next presentation so you can learn from it and replicate what went well and improve what needs to change.

The beauty of my presentation log is that you need to rate yourself within 24 hours or you may forget something important that is outlined for you. Of course you can still ask others for their input however now you have a means of rating that is specific and can be reviewed by you.

If this Presentation Log is a tool you’d like to have and start using, please notify me.

I look forward to hearing your comments and questions.
