Do you have a voice that’s listened to? Many of us don’t  but that can change!

For starters—ask yourself the following questions:

Do you…

  1. Regularly hydrate?
  2. Avoid smoking?
  3. Practice vocal warm-ups?
  4. Use a microphone when appropriate?
  5. Take periodic “vocal naps” to rest your voice?
  6. Use a humidifier in your home especially during colder months?
  7. Monitor your posture?
  8. Avoid eating spicy foods?
  9. Avoid speaking in noisy environments?
  10. Have good breath support?
  11. Speak with adequate volume?
  12. BONUS:  Avoid speaking at both ends of your vocal range?

Each of these tips is part of effective vocal hygiene.  They go a long way toward maintaining a healthy voice designed to last you a lifetime.  Everyone wants t0 be listened to but occasionally we find it challenging.  Using these vocal hygiene tips is a good place to begin however it’s also important to listen to  others, realize that less is more, avoid interruptions when you can, speak succinctly, build on what others say and give credit where credit is due.
